Best of Horror Films -- Eaten Alive -- Arachnia's Den of the Deceived

In true Tobe Hooper fashion, Eaten Alive is the perfectly executed, perfectly terrifying slasher/predator film for those never-ending Saturday nights.

It doesn't take long before you're introduced to Judd (Neville Brand), the lonely, eccentric hotel owner out in the middle of Buttfuck Nowhere. It also doesn't take long to discover that Judd isn't just a harmless old creep. He's more like a ticking time-bomb waiting to lash out with his trusty scythe at the first sign of danger.

As if the situation in itself weren't heavy enough, introduce a

crocodile kept on premises that's kept hungry for human flesh, the stunning and beautiful Marilyn Burns from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the only one that survived), and Robert Englund - way before he thrilled and killed in Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Eaten Alive was Hooper's first film following the "icebreaker" in terms of how much horror violence audiences could stand, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'd be lying if I said I didn't flinch on numerous occasions while watching this all-out maniacal thriller.
