BLACK CHRISTMAS

![]() |
A bustling sorority house getting ready for the Christmas season becomes a virtual 'murder mansion' in this chilling tale of suspense and mystery. Compared by many to Halloween, this Canadian-made film helped to introduce North America to the phenomena of slasher films. Black Christmas makes use of many of the techniques that Halloween became so famous for, such as "killer-cam" shots (you see things happen from the killer's viewpoint) and the use of music to heighten suspense as well as the overall experience of the movie. |
| Suspicions are unleashed when Clare (played by Lynne Griffin), one of the girls living at the sorority house fails to meet her father for their Christmas holiday. Clare's father informs the house mother, Mrs. Mack (Marion Waldman), that he believes his daughter to be missing. After looking for her in all of the obvious places, they take their case to the police, unbeknownst to them that Clare is sitting dead in the attic, perched in a rocking chair before the window, a plastic bag fitted over her head. The girls living at the sorority house relate their stories of recent prank calls they had been receiving. The bizarre, sometimes obscene calls had been persisting, and unnerving everybody. Perhaps Clare's disappearance and the phone calls are somehow related? |
| As the whole town becomes involved in helping to find Clare, the girls of the sorority house (among them comedienne Andrea Martin and The Amityville Horror's Marogt Kidder) can't seem to stay alive. One by one, they are butchered by a mysterious killer, while the phone calls continue to persist. In a thundering climax, police finally manage to put a trace on one of the prank calls, only to discover that the calls aren't coming from any place outside the house, but in fact, from the inside. Urged by police to get out of the house immediately, the only remaining survivor, Jess (Olivia Hussey) turns back to look for her friends, to get them out of the house too. She finds their corpses piled on top of one another, and later finds herself face to face with the killer. |

| Black Christmas is an unrelenting tale depicting the
dark capabilities of the human soul. A sequel to this film was intended to be shot,
entitled Halloween and would involve the likes of John Carpenter. Well,
as we all know, Halloween was made soon after, but not as a sequel to Black
Christmas. B L A C K C H R I S T M A S I M A G E G A L L E R Y Buy BLACK CHRISTMAS from: |
