Army of Darkness

"Gimme some sugar..."

The above quote is only one among many of the hysterical one-liners found in this definitely one of a kind film. Army of Darkness is the third and (so far) final film in the Evil Dead trilogy, and it takes a somewhat different approach than it's predecessors.

The film begins pretty much where the second one (Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn) leaves off. Ash suddenly finds himself trapped in medieval times, in a quest to retrieve the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead) to help save the city he has landed in. Of course, he has his own reasons for wanting the book. It'll help get him back to the 80's (*grin*...the 80's...) for one thing, and it might help put whatever they released in the first film back in it's cage once and for all.

The peasants of the village make a hero of him (after all, he showed them their first chainsaw) and decide he is to be the warrior who goes off in search of the Necronomicon. Ash promises to go and retrieve the book only if one of the village's elders will use it to help him get back to his own time. Ash is given a special verse to remember, which is to be spoken before he can pick up the Necronomicon. Well, gee...Do you think he'll forget it?...I dunno, that's a tough one...;)

Ash (bumbling as he can be) obviously goofs and his actions virtually "raise the dead". A virtual army of once-corpses (they're all skeletal by this point) awaken, led by the Deadite Captain (played by Bill Moseley; Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) descend upon the city, putting Ash in an awkward situation: Does he leave with the help of the elder, having fulfilled his promise to recover the Necronomicon, or does he stay and kick some corpse cornhole like the hero the villagers proclaim him to be?....Well, cripes, go rent the movie (heh heh heh)...
